AMERICAN DANCE ACADEMY

We believe dancers should be well-rounded in their dance training.  We encourage dancers to train in all genres to reach their full potential .  Our program is structured around  teams and companies where dancers spend equal time learning jazz and ballet, as well as extra classes in hip hop, lyrical, pointe, and tumbling.  Working as team in all genres teaches commitment and responsibility that students will take with them in every area of their lives.  It also allows students to create relationships in a positive environment.

Class Description & Schedule

Jazz: Jazz is high-energy and face-paced genre where the dancer’s personality is showcased.  To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong focus on technique to be able to execute the turns, leaps, and stylized movement.  Jazz is fun and energetic and supplements the grace and balance learned in ballet.

Ballet: Classical ballet is a highly technical form of dance that creates a solid foundation for dancers.  It teaches discipline and focus while increasing strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination.  Dancers trained in ballet will find the technique they learn will carry over into other genres.  At the age of 12, dancers will be able to begin dancing en pointe. Pointe, dancing on the “tip of the toes”, requires dedication and discipline and is an extension of classical ballet technique.

Lyrical/Contemporary:  These are dance forms where ballet and jazz technique are combined and the main focus is self-expression through movement.  Routines are usually slower and more fluid, but technique is showcases in a more expressive way. Musicality is learned through these forms.

Hip-Hop: Hip hop is a fast-paced and high energy dance form focusing on intricate movement.  Dancers will learn isolations, popping, locking, and footwork. Hip hop dances usually have rhythmic beats that dancers learn to interpret through quick, sharp movement.  Tumbling and stalls  are also taught and implemented in the routines.

Creative:  Creative is a dance form created for 3-5 year olds focusing on basic movement.  It is ballet based, but students learn a variety of basic dance movement in jazz and character, as well.  Creative teaches rhythm, musicality, cooperation, and basic discipline fit for young children.
